PITTSBURGH – Actor Christian Bale will be shooting his third film in Pittsburgh (after “Dark Knight Rises” and “Out of the Furnace”) and director Scott Cooper is returning for his second (after directing “Out of the Furnace” in the western Pennsylvania) with Netflix’s “The Pale Blue Eye.”

Pittsburgh Film Office director Dawn Keezer has confirmed production will begin in late November.

“The Pale Blue Eye” will also star Harry Melling, best known for his role in Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit”.

The film, adapted from the novel by Louis Bayard, takes place in 1830 in a military academy where a veteran detective (Bale) tries to solve a series of murders with the help of a caddy who would later become famous author Edgar Allen Poe (Melling).

Pittsburgh is emerging as a production hub enough for “The Pale Blue Eye” to mark the second reunion of the cast and animation team members of a previously produced project in Pittsburgh. Earlier this week, Netflix revealed that the cast and crew of “My Rainey’s Black Bottom” in Pittsburgh were back in town to shoot Netflix’s “Rustin,” including director George C. Wolfe and cast Colman. Domingo and Glynn Turman.

Additionally, covid testing will be required prior to training camp, costume fitting, and scheduled work dates (testing is free for extras and production pays $ 50 extras for testing on non-working days. working days).
