Disney to restore Gay Kiss to Lightyear after ‘Don’t Say Gay’ backlash
Disney will leave us a little gay kiss as a treat and as a last ditch attempt to beat allegations of homophobic censorship. According to VarietyPixar reportedly restores a gay kiss scene in its upcoming feature film, Light year, a Buzz Lightyear origin story. A “source close to the production” told the entertainment publication that the film features a female character, Hawthorne (Uzo Aduba), who is in a relationship with another woman, and a scene with a kiss between the two characters was originally cut. .
But thanks to the power of cyberstalking (and collective worker action), the House of Mouse threw in the towel and brought the film back to life. The move follows widespread outrage over society’s centrist response to Florida’s so-called Don’t Say Gay bills, which will ban discussion of anything LGBTQ+-related in classrooms. elementary schools and require teachers to send trans students to their parents.
In response, Disney, which is one of the largest media conglomerates in the world and therefore has considerable influence over politics in this oligarchy dressed as a democracy, released a statement that essentially amounted to a lukewarm on both sides. As in, Disney CEO Bob Chapek literally said the company has donated to politicians who have “taken a stand on both sides of the legislation.”
That includes $249,126 to members of the Florida legislature who voted in favor of the Don’t Say Gay bill, and an additional $50,000 to Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, according to a report from the Accountability Journalism Project. Popular information. The publication also noted that Chapek named not just one, but two Republicans who worked in the Bush administration to his cabinet, including the new corporate affairs director who is said to be “reassessing” Disney’s “political donations.”
Nonetheless, the company announced it would suspend political donations in Florida at a March 11 shareholder meeting, along with an “apology” from Chapek. Sadly, however, it seems that even $50,000 of Mickey’s dollars couldn’t deter Governor DeSantis from claiming that Disney is supposed to be in bed with the Chinese Communist Party and that the Sunshine State can’t pander to the interests of ” woke businesses,” per a video obtained by FoxNews.
DeSantis might be happy to know, however, that Disney executives would have cut “nearly every moment of openly gay affection,” according to a letter posted by LGBTQ+ Pixar employees and allies. Until recently, this included the scene of the next Light year – but now we’re going to have the pleasure of what will more than likely amount to a blurry 0.5 second shot of two animated ladies brushing their lips. Winning performance!
Aduba’s Hawthorne will join queer animation personalities, such as ForwardThe revolutionary lesbian cyclops cop, as well as the lesbian mother who drops off her child who you can kind of make out in the background of a shot at the very end of toy story 4. At least we’ll still have Disney’s myriad of iconic queer coded villains!
