Former Principal of Cranston Public Schools William L. “Larry” Condon Passes Away

William L. “Larry” Condon of Cranston, died June 2, 2021 at Evergreen House Health Center after a short battle with cancer.

A public school administrator for 45 years, he was principal of Edgewood Highland School, Waterman Elementary and Edward. S. Rhodes School in Cranston.

Larry was a loving husband for 43 years of the late Joanne (Gleason) Condon.

Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of William J. and Margaret (Whatmough) Condon. He leaves three children; Alicia Condon of Cranston, Andrew Condon of Des Moines, Washington, and John Deluca (and his wife Amy) of Barrington. He also leaves behind three grandchildren; Marcus, Jack and Emily, as well as two great-grandchildren; Léon and Théa.

Since becoming the youngest named elementary school principal in Rhode Island, Larry has touched thousands of lives in the community of Cranston. He was known as a loyal and respectful administrator by the teachers and other school staff who worked with him and as a caring and dedicated principal who memorized the names of every student in his school every year.

Larry has also been a member of several civic and educational organizations and has enjoyed playing in several local golf leagues over the past thirty years. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He was a graduate of Providence College and Rhode Island College. He was also a communicant at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cranston.
