Hellraiser’s iconic villain is transformed into NFT

Hellraiser‘s Pinhead, especially the model of Death by the light of day, is being transformed into NFT. Leaving us to think about what kind of cool hell the world has become.

There is something ironic about HellraiserPinhead is captured as NFT, given that the Spiky Faced Cenobite has spent centuries trapped in a dangerous puzzle box. The last thing the old pal surely needs is to be put in a new box, this time owned by a group of greedy cryptobros who have signed up to a tiered marketing scam.

It’s true you heard it here first: Pinhead, and indeed the entire cast of influential Clive Barker Hellraiser movie, deserves better. The poor creature has already had every ounce of respect wrenched by Harvey Weinstein’s bloodthirsty production company, Miramax Films. Seriously, these suites are a rough watch.

Anyway, as I said, Boss Protocol, a company that “allows brands to unlock the full potential of blockchain ”, bought the right to exclusively make TVN of Hellraiser‘s Pinhead. But what does this mean exactly?

Boss Protocol’s website talks a lot about ‘limited edition physical collectibles‘which is a bit like a snake oil salesman packing every one of his fake drugs with Panadol. The very notion of NFT is premised on the premise that things don’t have to be physical to be of value, so trying to sell an NFT by packaging it with a physical product is almost doomed to failure.

It should be noted, however, that the team behind Death by the light of day seem to have had little to do with the agreement. According to IGN, a tweet from developer Behavior Interactive explained the situation as follows:

“Recently there has been some discussion about NFTs, so we wanted to clarify some things… When we work with our license partners, we provide them with in-game models as well as chapter keys. They are free to use them as they see fit as the rightful owners of these characters.“

So even though it’s a sad day for Hellraiser‘s Pinhead, at least it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing too many other NFTs in Death by the light of day.
