MBVV cyber cell arrests a duo for fraud through false marketing plans

The Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police Cyber Cell Unit has arrested two cyber crooks for their alleged involvement in a multi-layered online marketing fraud that was operated through fraud websites and apps. The action followed in response to a complaint filed by a 31-year-old job aspirant who came across an offer while surfing the internet.
The plaintiff was tricked into depositing money in exchange for lucrative commissions offered at various levels of a marketing scheme on the online portal. To gain the trust of their potential target, the scammers even transferred small amounts to the plaintiff’s account at the first level of the scheme. However, when the commission stopped and the demands started to increase, the woman realized she was being duped and contacted the cyber cell unit.
A team led by Police Inspector Sujitkumar Gunjkar and PSI Prasad Shenolkar under the supervision of ACP Amol Mandve and DCP (Crime) Dr. Mahesh Patil investigated the complaint and arrested the duo identified as Kapil Vaishnav and Vivek Sonasariya under technical supervision and money. track that had led to some bank accounts used for fraudulent transactions. Police suspect a foreign national’s role in creating false connections to lure gullible people by launching bogus investment schemes and publicizing them on social media platforms.
The defendant’s bank account which had a huge unaccounted turnover was frozen. An offense against the relevant sections of the IPC for cheating and Sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act was recorded at Bhayandar Police Station against the pair who were placed in jail. MBVV Police have called on people to refrain from making any kind of financial transactions with strangers or unverified websites.
