PlayStation’s Ken Kuratagi disapproves of Metaverse; Always choose real life over avatar; No meta PS?

PlayStation creator Ken Kuratagi recently said he disapproves of the Metaverse and would rather hang out in real life than the digital world. This could indicate that the development of the PlayStation would only look at games and an augmented reality experience, but not a metaverse for the console.

Ken Kuratagi’s recent interview with Bloomberg revealed many opinions on the PlayStation creator’s feelings regarding the upcoming Metaverse. Here, Kuratagi said he prefers real life to a shared world or digital experience that confines a person to seeing the knowledge being created.
The gaming legend is also not a fan of AR and virtual reality (VR) headsets.
Instead of focusing on developing the Metaverse, Kuratagi would instead focus on creating AI-powered robots that would help society. Despite Sony’s PlayStation division plans for a new PSVR2 unveiled at CES 2022, the PS’s inventor still doesn’t approve of the hardware because it blocks people from seeing the real world.

No meta PS? Kuratagi says robotics for a better society
Kuratagi would rather focus his career on something that would help society, and he thinks it’s with Ascent.AI’s focus on robotics. The inventor’s startup boasts of a Japanese-made robot that aims to bring valuable functions and assistive technology that could soon be useful to the world.
However, that doesn’t entirely take the PS Meta out of the equation as Sony can develop the experience themselves, bringing it to PlayStation for application. Additionally, he could invite other creators to play on the console for their Metaverse.
PlayStation and its popularity
PlayStation is a massively famous console in the world, and it took the world by storm when it was launched in the late 90s for people to enjoy and play games. Currently, the world is looking at the fifth regular version of the PlayStation with the PS5, bringing the first white-colored console in Sony’s production since its first release which focused on gray and then black.
Sony’s PlayStation has become a global hit, with huge fandom in different places around the world, with people willing to pay more to receive the console in their region. Leaks show that there are new patents for Sony’s console, and it’s reportedly focusing on a dual-GPU version of it that would focus on cloud gaming at home.
But it strongly resembles the one in the PS5 digital version which has already removed the disc slot.
Nonetheless, Ken Kuratagi’s original PlayStation brought the world one of its first and subsequent consoles, including the PS2, PS3, and PS4. Kuratagi’s focus on robotics suits a better society, aiming to lend a helping hand through mechanical technology.
However, the PS Metaverse may not be dropped at all as it could allow other metas to play on the console or bring what Sony has developed for the platform.
