Stakeholders validate Made in Gambia to reposition the productive sector –

The Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) Thursday, December 23, 2021, validated the Made in The Gambia strategy which was held in Senegambia.
The objective of the strategy is to reorganize and reposition the productive sector of the economy as a competitive enterprising, manufacturing and export-oriented country.
The strategy will also seek to build on and take advantage of other strategic government policies and create synergies around the promotion of the country’s industrial competitiveness in order to improve the production and consumption of locally produced goods and services. .
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of MOTIE, Mr. Hassan Gaye said that with the entry into force of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), the main objective of which is To increase intra-African trade by 52.3% by 2022, a great opportunity is presented to countries to benefit from increased market access to stimulate their trade and develop their productive sectors. This, he said, can only be done by deliberately targeting productive industries, especially those in the manufacturing sub-sector.
“Our private sector, made up mainly of MSMEs, is one of the most dynamic sectors with great potential for sustained growth. Therefore, my ministry remains fully committed to providing the necessary support through policy and strategic measures such as the “Made in The Gambia Strategy” to help the private sector position itself in the global economy for growth and development. inclusive economic. “
He stressed that the “Made in The Gambia Strategy” aims to provide a coherent and integrated strategic lens that will guide the government and all stakeholders in the manufacturing sub-sector to achieve the development results envisioned in the National Development Plan (PND ).
“I wish to implore each of you to contribute to the development of this guiding strategy for the promotion of the national brand ‘Made in Gambia’ in order to help achieve the aforementioned goal for our common good as a country” , said DPS Gaye.
AbdouTouray, a representative of UNDP noted that people live in a very competitive society, in order to have a positive trade balance which they need to produce to be competitive in the world.
He stressed that all the products they produce, they should add value to it, and they should strengthen their ability to produce. Made in The Gambia is long overdue, noting that they should be proactive in implementing this important strategy.
Fabba Jammeh, Director of Industry and Investment at MOTIE, noted that the strategy is timely as it would allow them to critically examine business needs at national, regional and international levels.
