The stock market registers mixed feelings
June 06 (THEWILL) – A total turnover of 28.736 billion shares worth N209.060 billion in 23,688 transactions was traded last week by investors on the trading floor, against a total of 1.840 billion shares worth N27.286 billion which changed hands last week in 27,273 transactions.
The NGX All-Share Index and market capitalization depreciated by 2.18% to close the week at 52,908.24 and 28.523 trillion naira respectively
The financial services sector (measured by volume) topped the business chart with 28.048 billion shares valued at N198.017 billion traded in 10,416 deals; thus contributing 97.61% and 94.72% respectively to the volume and value of the total stock turnover.
The conglomerate industry followed with 434.845 million shares worth $1.339 billion in 1,225 deals. Third place was the consumer goods industry, with turnover of 74.111 million shares worth N2.853 billion in 3,835 transactions.
As of the end of the last trading day on Friday, a total of 282,969,514 shares in 4,245 trades, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,371,652,229.46 have been traded.
Compared to NGX’s previous trading day (Thursday, June 2), today’s data shows a 3% improvement in volume, a 16% decline in revenue, and a 15% decline in trades.
